Expectations
With Petron having Alex Cabagnot and Denok Miranda sharing majority of the minutes manning the point guard spot in the Commissioner’s Cup, Chico Lanete’s role was to provide quality minutes and provide some sort of spark off the bench.
Positives
For an undrafted player in the PBA who has been with different teams in the past, he did a decent job as the third string quarterback for the Blaze Boosters. Not too much was expected from him on the offensive side of things but he was able to chip in unexpected points in some games which most fans, and probably the whole team, know is a big bonus. He was able to give Miranda, who started most of the games, enough breathing room and played stable as a back-up.
Negatives
If there’s a back seat in Lanete’s performance, it would probably be his turn overs. With his 14 minutes of playing time this Commissioner’s Cup, he averaged 1.25 turnovers a game. In some games, he looked over excited and tried to do so much in certain plays that often led to errors. Also – despite showing pesky defense against opposing guards – when it goes down to a half court set, there were times that he gets left by the player he is guarding.
Grade: 6
Despite his 1.25 turnovers a game in 14 minutes of action, Chico did a good job giving Cabagnot and Miranda some breather. Any point coming from Lanete will be considered a big bonus given that Petron is already loaded in every position.
How about you guys? Do you have the same grade as me for Chico Lanete this Commissioner’s Cup?
