The STAR Hotshots (1-1) look to get back on the winning track after suffering a disappointing loss against the GlobalPort Batang Pier. This time, they collide with a team also looking to get back on the win column in the Meralco Bolts (1-2).
For the Bolts, the problem isn’t their import. Andre Emmett, a former NBA D-League All-Star Game MVP, has been providing solid numbers for Meralco. In his first three games, he topped his team in scoring with 41 points (vs. GBP), 31 points (vs. SMB), and 44 points (vs. NLEX). The problem with Meralco is their inconsistency in terms of local support. In their lone win against the SMB, Emmett had the support of Gary David (23 points), Rey Guevarra (11 points), Reynel Hugnatan (10 points), and Cliff Hodge (10 points). In their losses, these guys where nowhere to be found. In their game against NLEX, Japanese import Seiya Ando (18 points) tried his best to provide that support for Emmett but it wasn’t enough as there was again a lack of local support.
So for the Hotshots to win this game, I suggest they let Emmett do his thing and contain the locals instead. But aside from the locals, they should keep an eye on Seiya Ando, as he can weave through his defenders with ease and orchestrate the offense for the Bolts. If they do this, STAR will be in a good position to get the W. If they can contain everyone, and have a perfect night on defense, then it will be a rout for sure.
The Hotshots will once again rely on the overall game of Marqus Blakely and hope that there would be local support as well. It will be important that STAR be aggressive in their offense especially the “Big 3”. It doesn’t matter if the shots don’t fall right away, what’s important is they make the defense work.
