View from the Enemy: UST Growling Tigers

There are two things on National University Bulldogs to-do list coming into a game against UST Growling Tigers. One is to bounce back and the other is to prove to the Tigers that they are a better and stronger team than the one they faced in last season’s Final Four.

The Bulldogs, who suffered from a disappointing loss against the UE Red Warriors, are looking to dominate their opponents and come out as winners in their game on Wednesday, July 10 at 4 pm in Araneta Coliseum. In UAAP Season 75, the team in Blue and Gold has never won a game against the España-based team but it’s a new season and new things are going to happen and history is going to be made.

Keys to the Game

Take It Outside

NU Bulldogs who didn’t have their usual outside shooting in their last game must start off the game with immense power from beyond the arc. Dennis Villamor who only had one try against UE has to step up and pave the way for the outside shooters to attempt long rage shots. They have to try their luck from there since the paint is going to be mostly dominated by either Karim Abdul or Kevin Ferrer.

If the Bulldogs can manage to out-rebound UST during their second round bout last season, then they can do it again. Tall guys like Emmanuel Mbe and Troy Rosario has to challenge Abdul and Ferrer inside the paint. National-U was able to keep a close game against the Black and Gold that match because they had more offensive rebounds and that is what they have to bring in on Wednesday.

Keep Teng At Bay

When Jeric Teng gets hot, it’s going to be a hard time to cool him down again. This is the problem NU is going to have to solve if they let Teng score all-throughout the game. They have to put off the fire before it even starts to burn.

We Need Alolino

This 5’11” NU guard has been absent in the past two games for his squad; he only had two and five assists in their last two outings respectively and no more than 10 points. This time, he has no choice but to stand up and lead the pack especially now that UST’s prized point guard, Jeric Fortuna has graduated.

Hindi na puedeng tsumamba ang UST.  This time, luck is going to be in National University Bulldogs’ side. If Ray Parks could keep his head in the game and not let Ferrer’s relentless defense take him down, it’s going to be a different story. He also has to learn how to shake off swarming defense that UE had shown in their last game. Also, if NU’s outside shooting will work in this bout, it’s going be a tighter match-up than before. It’s UAAP Season 76, after all.
