Finally, a badly needed win for Ginebra as it subdued the Air 21 Express, 106-93 last night. All players showed the sense of urgency we expected from a team that’s desperate to get back on the winning track. LA Tenorio continues to play splendid basketball with yet another all-around game with 18 points 7 boards and 14 dimes. Also, Mark Caguioa finally ended his slump with 20 points on only 11 attempts.
With Air 21 lacking an inside presence, Ginebra went to Lowhorn at the post frequently. Their import didn’t disappoint as he scored 35 points on only 19 shots, while also making 15/16 from the charity stripe. Interestingly, Lowhorn has posted back to back 30 point games since he was criticized by last year’s best import Jamelle Cornley on Twitter.
Let’stake a look at the keys to the game:
1. Dynamic Duo
I was expecting more, but I don’t have any complaints with what I saw. Caguioa took care of the scoring, while Tenorio took control of the tempo and organized the attack.IT seems like the Spark is definitely back on track after scoring an efficient 20 points on 8/11 shooting. Not to be outdone, the Gineral, flirted with a triple-double as he finished with an 18-7-14 stat line. They need to continue playing like this in order for Ginebra to sustain its good play and climb back up the standings.
2. Shoot that Ball
Ginebra finished the game with an impressive 43.6% outing from the field. They also continued their league leading assist pace by producing a total of 25 helpers in the game. Their mark from outside still needs to get better, but for this game, it’s all good.
3. Limit Graham
Yes, he scored 38 points on 23 shots, while also putting in five triple in this game. Good thing that Ginebra was able to lock-down the Express locals The main thing here is they let Graham to shoot all night as only two other Air21 players scored in double figures.
Key match-up: LA Tenorio vs. Mike Cortez
Unlike last Sunday’s UAAP game, the Atenean edged out his rival this time as he controlled the game from start to end. LA had a fantasy-friendy stat line while also limiting Mike Cortez to only 4 points and 8 assists.
Ginebra’s next game is on Sunday, September 8 against the San Mig Coffee Mixers. Ready for Manila Classico?
