Joseph Yeo’s role for Petron is to provide energy and offensive spunk off the bench which he was doing well in the previous conferences. Before the start of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, his name floated around trade rumors which eventually died down and saw him staying with the Blaze Boosters, sharing minutes with Marcio Lassiter, Chris Lutz and newly acquired Ronald Tubid.

In a squad that has a deep rotation in the wings, Yeo’s minutes dipped and the touches that he got before the arrival of Tubid and the return of Lassiter also took a hit causing his production to go down. A fractured hand at the latter part of the conference, which caused him to miss the last six games of the eliminations and the playoffs, also added to Yeo’s struggles. But during the early stretch of the Commissioner’s Cup wherein Chris Lutz suffered a rib injury, Yeo was able to back up Lassiter and Tubid very well as he wasn’t forcing his shots during that stretch.

For a player whose minutes and touches significantly went down, you can’t expect that much from Joseph Yeo. His offensive game is still his primary weapon and he suffered big time with the return of a healthy Marcio Lassiter and the acquisition of Ronald Tubid. Yeo needed to adjust to a new role of injecting energy and spunk in a short amount of time on the floor. The flaws that can be noted in Yeo’s performance in this conference is his lapses on the defensive end wherein we saw him having difficulty keeping in step with opposing shooting guards and his poor shooting from the rainbow territory, making only five out of 21 attempts.

Grade: 5

The third overall pick of the 2006 PBA Draft struggled mightily in the Commissioner’s Cup. His game clearly took a hit as he needed to fit in to a lesser role with Petron getting deeper in the wings.
