With the struggles and inconsistency of Alex Cabagnot from the recent conferences, Denok Miranda is expected to play a bigger role for Petron and bring stability and leadership in the back court that they have been badly missing from their starting point guard.
The increased playing time for Denok Miranda in the last conference totally showed us that he can contribute in any given night for a star-studded Petron team. Miranda, who was once Sta. Lucia’s starting court general, was able to make up for the inconsistent play of Alex Cabagnot. Logging in 23.07 minutes in 15 games this Commissioner’s Cup, the Far Eastern University stand out brought a lot of positives for the team. Miranda is not known to shoot that well from the field but he did a pretty good job making his baskets with a 47% shooting clip wherein he attempted 28 three-point shots and making 11 of it for a considerably high 39% from the rainbow arc. Known to be a good defensive player in his position, Denok was able to give the Blaze Booster’s priority of playing tough defense as he was able to stand his ground against the opposing point guards. More than that, Miranda’s “team first” attitude was highlighted this conference as he was able to get the team, especially June Mar Fajardo more involved in the offense when he is setting the plays on the court.
Denok used to play limited minutes when he first transferred from Sta. Lucia to the Petron franchise, and in this conference, he saw an increase in his playing time. If there’s a drawback in Denok’s stellar play this Commissioner’s Cup, it has to be his stamina as there were games that he looked gassed and tired. Another one is Denok being a foul prone player. There were games that he was playing excellent in both ends of the floor but eventually, he gets into foul trouble because he gets too eager. Lastly, despite considerably good shooting from the perimeter, Denok shot poorly from the charity stripe with a 50% clip, making 16 out of his 32 attempts this conference.
Denok stepped up very well this conference that caused his minutes to increase and Petron was able to get the leadership and stability that they have been looking for from Alex Cabagnot. Miranda made up for Cabagnot’s inconsistency and was the better court general for Coach Olsen’s wards.
