After the beating they received in Game 1, the Texters are sure to come out with a vengeance here. Coach Leo Austria and his wards have to be ready for that and respond. They don’t really have to change their gameplan all that much: pressure Jason Castro, challenge outside shooters, lock down the paint, and avoid turning the ball over. Also of note will be their three-point shooting. They have shot less than 30% in their last two games, including their quarterfinal win against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. I fully expect them to explode at some point and this game might be just that. The Beermen have to remain focused on the defensive end and try to avoid any unnecessary “extracurricular” activities on the court.
In addition to Castro, Ranidel De Ocampo and Jay Washington will have to be checked once again. Chris Ross did a fantastic job on Castro last time. Arwind Santos and June Mar Fajardo will have to follow suit, especially on De Ocampo who exploded for 11 points in the first quarter alone. We’ll find out if they can keep up this kind of play. We’ll also see if Alex Cabagnot‘s performance in Game 1 will be the norm or the exception. I fully expect this to be a much tougher match and, owing to several altercations in the previous game, maybe a little more physical. I can definitely see San Miguel winning two straight but I wouldn’t be surprised if Talk ‘N Text takes it their way.
