The San Miguel Beermen end a tough 3-game week in Lanao Del Sur versus the NLEX Road Warriors, formerly the Air21 Express franchise. Coming from a humbling loss to the Alaska Aces, the Beermen look to bounce back in a big way. It is expected to be a tough outing once again as they haven’t really performed all that well in out-of-town. That doesn’t even consider their match-up.

Though there were several changes to the NLEX roster after the MVP group bought the franchise, it still remains anchored by the ageless Asi Taulava. Still going strong at 41, he will once again pose a tough challenge on both sides of the floor against reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo. After a lowly 10-point game against Alaska, Fajardo should come out a little more aggressive this time. More than Taulava however, his other frontcourt partners will be problems as well, most especially Rico Villanueva as he has the heft and experience to combat San Miguel’s already depleted big man rotation. Another player to worry about is Mac Cardona. After a 9.9 PPG average last season, his lowest since his rookie season, he’s looking to bounce back as one of the main options of this team. And he’s doing it in a big way at 18 PPG. He will be a handful inside the arc with all his patented hook shots.

I think the biggest question will be whether or not they can properly execute their offense this time. Will they feed Fajardo the ball or will they chuck up jumpers instead? And if they do get the ball to the post, can Marcio Lassiter, Chris Lutz, and Arwind Santos find some form of consistency and hit their outside shots? If yes, they will have a much easier time getting that point total up. If not, look for them to bleed and struggle once more.
