After being inconsistent in last conference’s semi-finals, Paul Lee has been solid for ROS here in the Commissioner’s Cup. He’s averaging 20 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, with Player Efficiency Rating (PER) of 33.4. Meanwhile, it’s Gary David who’s making it happen for the Bolts, averaging 21 points and three assists, with PER of 32.2.
The matchup to watch out for will be those of the imports. Joshua Davis has been a beast on the glass (tops in the league), and we all know that rebounding has always been Rain or Shine’s waterloo. They’re no longer worst in this department, mostly thanks to Richard Jackson, but the rest of the team also need to help.
Both squads have above-average offense (4th and 5th in the league so far, with MER having a slight edge), but it’s Meralco’s defense that will spell the difference. The Bolts will try to slow down the game, while ROS will do the exact opposite.
For a team that supposedly has a deep bench, Rain or Shine is yet to feel significant contributions from players not named Lee and Jackson. Somebody else needs to step up to prevent the Bolts from easily taking this match.
