The biggest problem of Rain or Shine will definitely be Solomon Alabi who’s averaging 24 points, 22 rebounds, and five blocks. The Extra Rice Inc. duo of Beau Belga and JR Quinahan will have their hands full trying to contain Barako’s 7-foot import while avoiding foul trouble. Also, Alabi is one of the most dominant defenders in the league so attacking the basket will be extra challenging for the Painters.
Rain or Shine’s advantage over Barako are their ball movement (assist rate of 63 percent) and three-point shooting (9.3 makes out of 29 triple attempts) – two things that have tremendously helped them win games this conference. Wayne Chism being comfortable scoring both from the inside and outside will be a crucial factor for ROS in this matchup.
Meanwhile, Barako Bull will rely on their pesky defense that makes them league leaders in terms of points allowed per 100 possessions (DRTG of 88.9). They’re also number one in stealing the ball (steal rate of 9.2) and blocking shots (block rate of 9.8).
There’s no news yet if Paul Lee will suit up after missing their last game against the Aces. Although they won that one and several Elasto Painters stepped up in his absence, having the Lethal Weapon back on the floor is still ideal. He’s the type of player who’s not afraid to drive no matter how clogged the lane may be. His aggressiveness will help break down the Energy Cola’s half-court defense.
If the Barako Bull locals can provide ample support to Alabi the way they did in their previous win, then Rain or Shine will be in serious trouble.
