The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (3-2) will field their former import Wayne Chism in their game against the Alaska Aces (2-2) on Friday, February 20. Chism helped the Elasto Painters in last years Commissioner’s Cup, averaging 25 points and 14 rebounds in their losing semifinals series despite playing injured.
Replacing Rick Jackson with Chism will mostly mean an even faster Rain or Shine team. Although they’re already the fastest in the league looking at the average number of possessions used per game (93.9), they’re currently among the worst in scoring off fastbreaks and turnovers, which used to be their weapon. Having Chism back on board will make ROS more difficult to slow down, and that’s bad news for Alaska. His familiarity with his teammates may boost Rain or Shine’s league-best assist rate of 62.7, compared to the Aces’ 43.2 (third worst).
Alaska’s advantage lies in their offense – third in offensive rating (102.6) and first in true shooting (52.4%) and effective field goal (48.8%). While ROS is below average in offense, they make up for it in defense, only giving up 94 points per 100 possessions. The Aces, on the other hand, is worst in the league as they allow 112.
I predict that Rain or Shine will prevail in this match.
