The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (7-2) are aiming to improve their chances of grabbing one of the top two spots by clinching a victory against the Alaska Aces (8-2). The Aces, meanwhile, are looking to recover from their heartbreaking loss against Barangay Ginebra and once and for all book that automatic ticket to the semifinals.
Just like in their previous game against Purefoods, ROS will need to push the ball and impose their quickness in this match. They need to be careful with the leather as Alaska can force 16.9 percent of opponent possessions to end up in turnovers (tops in the league). Alaska is one of the best rebounding teams and Rain or Shine will have to fight tooth and nail to prevent the Aces from clobbering them on the glass and gaining momentum from it.
ROS especially needs to find ways to stop Calvin Abueva who’s currently having a monster season, leading the league* in Player Efficiency Rating (PER) at 30.9 and total rebounding rate (TREB%) at 24.5 percent. He averages a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. The Elasto Painters will also have their hands full trying to control JVee Casio, Sonny Thoss, and Dondon Hontiveros.
I’d be disappointed with anything less than a 51-point massacre (#NeverForget). Hahaha, just kidding. I’m predicting a close game, and Rain or Shine’s reliable bench will once again see them through.
