The Purefoods Star Hotshots (7th) are looking to capture their 5th straight championship this conference. However, unlike in their previous runs, they are now faced with a twice-to-beat disadvantage (thanks to the quotient system) entering the playoffs against a dangerous squad in the Meralco Bolts (6th).

It will be an interesting match-up from top to bottom. Coach Norman Black (MER) and Coach Tim Cone (PFS), both Grand Slam coaches, will once again try to outsmart each other and lead their respective teams to victory. Also, there’s the Marc Pingris and Cliff Hodge battle down low, James Yap and Gary David from deep, JDV and JD on the wings, and the PG battle between Mark Barroca and Mike Cortez.

With that being said, this will be an explosive match-up for sure. Also, it will be a chance for Coach Tim Cone and the rest of Purefoods (B-MEG back then) to get back at El Granada for foiling their twice-to-beat advantage in the 2012 Philippine Cup. This time, it will be Purefoods out to put down Gary David’s squad.

Because it’s the playoffs already, I’m expecting to see a more focused Purefoods team in this game. Meralco will be tough to put down but I think the Hotshots will be able to do what they do best, winning when it matters.
