First of all, let me say congratulations to our Pambansang Kamao, Manny Pacquiao, for an impressive victory against Chris Algieri. It was a clinical victory by Manny (dropping the young one 6 times) who showed that he still has it… in boxing. In another sport wherein Pacquiao recently jumped in, his team, the slumping KIA Sorento (1-7) goes up against a streaking Purefoods Star Hotshots (4-3).
The Hotshots are looking to knockout Manny Pacquiao and the rest of the Sorento in this match-up, looking to extend their winning streak to 4. By the numbers, it looks like this would be an easy one for Purefoods. They are up against a KIA team that is 11th in the league in terms of offense (82.5 ORTG) with a league-worst 37.9% eFG (12th). They are also the last in the league when it comes to rebounding with 45% TREB percentage. In terms of defense, KIA also belongs to the lower-half of the league with a defensive rating of 99.0 (9th).
However, if reports hold true that Manny will suit up for the Sorento in this game, Purefoods should expect a different kind of KIA team and be more mindful of them come Wednesday. For sure, KIA’s players will come out with a lot more intensity and will do everything they can to win this game. As James Yap said, “Kapag nandoon si Manny, lahat ng players niya, nali-lift up niya. Kailangang handa kami doon. Hindi kami dapat pa-easy easy lang. Kailangan go hard.”
But even with the possibility playing-coach Manny Pacquiao, I really don’t see them scoring an upset over the Hotshots. Fearless Forecast? Purefoods win by more than 10 points.
