It will be an exciting Manila Clasico showdown for sure as both teams are coming from a loss, painful losses at that. Purefoods lost by a big margin to a Pacquiao-led KIA side while on the other end, Ginebra lost a one-point decision at the hands of Talk N’ Text in their last game.
In this edition of Manila Clasico, I must give the advantage to Ginebra as they are slowly getting accustomed to their import in Michael Dunnigan. For Purefoods, it’s still a struggle for Daniel Orton. He’s extremely frustrated after that KIA game that he said things that cost him quarter of a million pesos. As of this writing, news reports are coming out of former best import awardee and favorite of Purefoods fanatics Denzel Bowles coming back and suiting up for the franchise once again.
He is scheduled to be measured by the league once again to check if he passes the 6’9” height limit for reinforcements this conference. If he does, I guess this will be Orton’s last game for the Hotshots. [BREAKING NEWS] Denzel Bowles was already measured by the Commisioner’s office of the PBA and was listed as 6’8″ 13/16 passing the height requirement. He will be Purefoods’ import in tomorrow’s Manila Clasico showdown. Orton on the other hand was sent home by Purefoods already.
Also, Ginebra has Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar inside. This will make it difficult for Purefoods’ big men to attack the paint. But you can say that the Hotshots can run in order to negate Ginebra’s advantage inside. However, they are facing the “Run and Gun” Ginebra squad that ranks at the upper half of the league in terms of fast break points.
But still, just like any other game in the PBA, Purefoods have a chance to win this game if they display superb and disciplined defense. They are currently first in the league in terms of defense with a defensive rating of 88.7. Ginebra has the advantage offensively so Purefoods must use their defense as their main weapon to avoid another loss.
