After edging the San Miguel Beermen in overtime in their last game (thanks to “Big Game” James Yap), Purefoods will be in a tough position once again as they are going up against a team that’s currently 2nd in offense (102.4 ORTG) fueled by a high field goal percentage (1st with 48.4% eFG). They will be facing the number 1 team in the league today led by the NBA veteran, Ivan Johnson. Against Globalport in their last outing, Johnson went berserk against the Batang Pier as he finished that game with 35 points, 20 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals as well. Purefoods will have their hands full not only with Johnson down the low block but also with the guys on the wings namely RDO, Jayson Castro, and Gabe Norwood 2.0, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser.
To say that this will be a difficult game for Purefoods would be an understatement. To beat Talk N’ Text in this game, they would have to be at their best. Denzel Bowles must play like it’s Game 7 of the Finals once more. James Yap must play like he did against SMB and Ping must be Ping himself, anchoring what could be the Hotshots’ main weapon in this game, their defense. Purefoods is currently number one in the league in terms of defense with a DRTG of 93.2. To increase their chances of winning this one against TNT, they must do a good job in defending the three-point line as TNT likes to shoot threes. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t like shooting from deep as they’re number one in that department with 34.1% 3P.
Again, it will be a tough game for the Hotshots. But like any other game in the PBA, a win is still a possibility.
