The pressure is on.
The National University (5-7) and University of the Philippines (3-8) will square off in a crucial affair that will determine the Bulldogs’ chances of nabbing the last Final Four slot. The Fighting Maroons, who are facing adversity right now, are in a tough situation as they will try to bounce back from their defeat against the Ateneo Blue Eagles in their last assignment. On the other hand, the Bulldogs gave themselves another lifeline after they beating the currently #4 La Salle in their previous outing.
Defense will be a key factor in this pivotal match. The defending champs are allowing a second-best 82.7 points per 100 possessions, only behind the league-leading FEU Tamaraws (82.6). The Fighting Maroons are not far behind in terms of defensive rating as they’re only surrendering 85.4 per 100, which is good for fifth best in the league.
For the Bulldogs, other players must continue to chip in terms of points production. Guys like JJay Alejandro, who scorched hot in their last game with 25 markers, Pao Javelano and Kyle Neypes must again find ways to help the team.
More than anything, these two teams are scrambling for winning. A win by NU here will put them closer to the coveted Final Four slot while a loss will dig them deeper to the lower half of the standings and give UP a glimpse of hope in their own Final Four dreams.
