For the second time this season, the National University (3-6) will try to snap a three-game losing streak as they look to improve their slim chances of booking a Final Four seat. Barring their way is another team that is looking for some winning momentum and probably different player rotations in trying to salvage their Season 78 campaign, the Adamson Soaring Falcons (1-8).
The last time these two teams met, the Bulldogs demolished the Falcons in a wire-to-wire victory, 75-54. Led by an all-around performance of Alfred Aroga who filled the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, the Bulldogs held Adamson to just nine markers in the second period that doomed any chance for the Falcons.
Their first round match marked the best shooting performance of the Bulldogs this season as they converted 47% from the field despite going just 3-of-12 from the rainbow territory. It also helped NU’s cause that the supporting cast stepped up (something we don’t see that much this season) as seven players scored at least six points, including a stellar performance from Ralph Tansingco who registered 10 points on 63% shooting and seven caroms.
This might be relatively an easy assignment for NU, but let us not underestimate the capability of Adamson to pull off an upset despite what their win-loss record suggests. However, they’ll have to do it without one of their best players this season in Joseph Nalos, who is suspended due to the infamous incident in their previous outing.
Indeed, this is a must-win game for the defending champs as they cannot afford another slip up. One last push for one big bite.
