It’s win or go home for the De La Salle Green Archers as they face the FEU Tamaraws to cap off the elimination round of Season 78. With a win against the loaded Tamaraws, the Green Archers will extend their season for at least one game to take on the NU Bulldogs in a do-or-die match for the last spot in the Final Four. Should they lose this one out, it will mark the first time they will miss the Final Four festivities in four years.
Forget how bad DLSU played in the second round because they are still in the hunt up until the final game of the eliminations. Even if the Tamaraws have nothing to lose since they already locked up the second seed and will face the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the Final Four with a twice-to-beat advantage, they’ll surely give the Green Archers a run for their money.
In the first round match, FEU clobbered the Green Archers, 93-75. They waxed hot from downtown, draining 14 three-pointers in total. They also shot a very efficient 57.7% eFG while holding DLSU to 38.7%. The Green Archers were also misfiring from deep, making just two triples the entire game. In the end, the loaded Tamaraws were too much on the offensive end as they tallied an incredible 110 ORTG during the game. They were led by the dynamic duo of Mike Tolomia and Mac Belo who had 20 and 17 points respectively for FEU. Meanwhile, the Green Archers were paced by Jeron Teng who notched a season-high 29 points.
In this match, a lot will be at stake for the Green Archers (well just their season no big deal), and they need to play with more urgency than they’ve played the entire season. First, they need to step up their defensive intensity against the Tamaraws, who have been the best offensive team in the league this season. They cannot engage the Tamaraws in a shootout. They really need to make the Tamaraws work for their points this time around. Also, the Green Archers need to convert their own baskets at a higher rate, move the ball more, and find the best shot available for them. The veterans need to step up, particularly Thomas Torres and Jason Perkins, to provide the much needed assistance for Teng and Prince Rivero in this crucial match.
La Salle will have to go all in in this game. There is no room to relax for them as their season is on the line. Surely, they are deadeye focused for that last Final Four spot so they will do anything just to make it through. Their destiny will be in their hands, they won’t have to rely on other teams to shape up their standing.
