At this point, Ginebra desperately needs a win to separate themselves from Talk N’ Text and Air21 at the bottom of the standings. But to do that they need to beat the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. I know that Rain or Shine isn’t such a scary team to face right now, but it will stll be a challenge to this Ginebra team as there has alwayws been something about how these two teams match-up. Last conference, Ginebra faced ROS in the quarter finals with the Elasto Painters having a twice-to-beat advantage. As we all know, Ginebra was able to pull off some sort of miracle in that series, moving passed the Elasto Painters and into the semi-finals.
There will be some good news for Ginebra as Kerby Raymundo has been cleared to play. This will be a big boost for the Gin Kings especially since they are very thin at front court with Japeth out till the playoffs. With Kerby back, they will have another presence in the post. He will also give Ginebra another inside scoring threat they badly need.
Keys of the Game:
1. Battle of the Wings
This will be an interesting and fun match-up as both teams feature athletic and sharpshooting wings. Mac Baracael, Chris Ellis and Dylan Ababou will have their hands full against Gabe Norwood, Ryan Jeff Chan, Ryan Araña and Jireh Ibañes.
2. The Lowhorn Attack
Dior Lowhorn has continued to put up big numbers for Ginebra but it has not yet translated into wins. It doesn’t mean that he’s not blending well with the team as it has been the locals that have played poorly conference. Lowhorn needs to continue to play his A-game especially against the ROS big guys. His post work will be challenge against the heaviest duo in the league, the Extra Rice Inc.
3. Fantastic LA
I know he has been consistent this conference with an average of 15.0 points 5.8 rebounds 9.2 assists (a career-high) and 38% from beyond the arc. Those are just pure fantasy-level numbers. He’s currently one of the favorites for the BPC crown and we also gave him a lot of love in our Awards Watch last week . He’s doing it all but his teammates need to do their part for Ginebra to have continued success.
Key Match-up: Mark Caguioa vs. Paul Lee
Can the Spark bounce back? Can the Leethal Weapon continue his mastery over Ginebra? This is a great match-up featuring two of the best scorers in the league. Caguioa has been struggling with his shooting this conference and Paul Lee is a vital cog in this Rain or Shine team. With both players looking like they’ll be guarding each other for long stretches, it’s bound to get interesting.
I’ll go for a Ginebra win. They’ll be more desperate and are hungrier for a win.
