This will be somewhat of a deciding game for both teams this conference as the winner will clinch a quarterfinals berth while the loser will have to wait until the last game of the elimination to find out if they’ll make the cut.
Ginebra is coming off a controversial and draining win over Rain or Shine last Saturday, but after having a week-long rest their minds and bodies will surely be ready for this battle. Meanwhile, the Batang Pier are coming off a loss against the league leading Petron Blaze Boosters.
Keys of the game:
1. Bench Support
This will be Ginebra’s biggest advantage against Globalport. The Gin Kings can rely on the services of Mac Baracael, Jayjay Helterbrand and even Mark Caguioa may come off the bench if the match-ups go that way. While the Portmasters don’t really have players in their bench who can deliver consistently.
2. Battle of the court generals
Sol Mercado’s numbers have dropped this the start of the season, but he still remains one of the most dangerous court generals in the PBA right now. His playmaking skills have developed through the years and he now can balance his passing and scoring quite effectively. But, if there is one guy who has been playing superb basketball this conference as a point guard, it has to be LA Tenorio. The Gilas standout is averaging 14.0 points 5.9 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game. It’s going to be an interesting battle between these two and it could possibly determine the outcome of the game.
3. The Spark is back
After exploding for 32 points in their last game, is it safe to say that the Spark is back? His scoring is starting to pick up and he scored his 32 points last game against a team that had a lot of great defenders. In this game, I expect him to come out strong, maybe not score as much, but still as efficient as the last game.
Key match-up: Mark Caguioa vs. Gary David
Do I need to describe this match-up? Let’s just have a poll: Who will end with more points in this game?
Ginebra by a mile. I’m picking El Granda to score more points against the Spark but I’m putting my money in a Ginebra win.
