La Salle waited for this for 10 months. In their first game of the season, the Green Archers wasted no time showing everyone they mean business this season with a 67-63 victory over the defending champions, National University Bulldogs. The Green Archers were off to a blazing start leading by 10 points at the start of the game, before holding off an NU comeback.
Leading the charge for La Salle are their old reliable Jeron Teng and Jason Perkins. Teng had 18 points including 4 out of 5 from the free throw line. Perkins on the other hand, had his usual double double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Also helping out for La Salle is the much improved Gilas Cadet sophomore Prince Rivero, who had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Andrei Caracut, the highly touted rookie from San Beda, did not disappoint in his UAAP debut, chipping in 13 points on 3/7 3-point shooting.
A lot of people, before the season started, questioned whether DLSU could adjust quickly this season, especially with the departures of many players and how they could integrate the new players into their system. But the Green Archers showed up as one unit this game, showing great spacing on the floor, and a well balanced attack. Leading as much as 13 points. But turnovers almost cost La Salle the game, as their turnovers (17 to be exact) nearly cost them the game, but Jason Perkins and Jeron Teng provided crucial plays to preserve the victory. But there is still a lot to learn and improve on for the Green Archers, even after a good win we know that these bunch won’t stop from learning from their mistake and be better in their next games to come.
