Here we go, the opening weekend of the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup will feature what sure to be is a highly physical game between Alaska and Rain or Shine. Both teams are young and rugged,  featuring some of the league’s most physical players in Calvin Abueva and Rain or Shine’s “extra rice” tandem in Beau Belga and JR Quinahan.

This game will also feature the debut of the tallest PBA import in history Bruno Sundov. Towering at 7’3″, expect the Aces’ defense to focus on limiting his dominance in the paint. It will really be interesting to see what Coach Yeng and Coach Luigi come up with to try to swing the match-ups in their favor.

Keys to the Game:

1. Let’s Get Physical: Which team will let the expected physicality of the game get into their heads? Sabi nga nila, “ang pikon, talo”. This definitely applies to this game.

2. Height is Might: Will Sundov’s height be a game changer? If Alaska is able to limit him, then their chances of winning look brighter.

3. Guard Play: While a lot of attention will be focused on the paint battles, these two teams also feature some marquee players at the guard positions. Their play will serve as the game’s x-factor.

Look for Rain or Shine to pull out a gutsy win, in what could be a low scoring game. The painters will be sure to want to prove a point, determined to erase the bad taste of their sweep in the Philippine Cup finals.
